Dare to Learn
The University of North Carolina at Wilmington’s motto is “Discere Aude,” Latin for “Dare to Learn.” At least you’ll be more inclined to learn at UNC Wilmington than a frat pledge is to walk around unbathed for two weeks. With such dedication to education, it’s no wonder Forbes magazine ranked UNCW number 17 on its list of “America’s Best College Buys” in 2010. Approximately 14,000 students attend this university each year, from 25 different countries. UNC Wilmington offers 52 bachelor’s degrees, 36 master’s degrees, and a few doctoral degrees. Don’t worry about 5 a.m. cram sessions (unless you’re just a super procrastinator), as 83% of students find coarse load manageability above average. You’ll be rocking a “Feel My Teal” T-shirt in no time once you see all UNC Wilmington has to offer.
Great Rooms, Showers, Etc.
Did you know that UNC Wilmington hosts an annual OOzeball mud volleyball competition? If you need to clean off after participating in a particularly wild game, you’ll find plenty of apartments in the area with great water pressure. There are several great multi-unit apartment complexes available off campus, ranging in price and amenities. If you’re able to shell out extra bucks (and dig into your daily pizza fund), you can have access to pools, fitness centers, etc. You can always live with roommates and make rent more affordable. Wilmington Thrills
If you find yourself spending so much time at William Madison Randall Library it starts to feel like your second home, you’ll need to get out and have some fun. Luckily, Wilmington knows how to party. While most students walk or take the bus, you can always hop on a Wave Transit and make your way down to where the action is. Stop by the Juggling Gypsy and see that girl from Analog Circuits class playing in her jazz band. After the show, head over to Islands Fresh Mex Grill for some grub and professor-griping. Once you’re back in party mode, visit City Limits Saloon and challenge your roomie to a game of pool. With all the cool stuff to do off-campus at UNCW, you’ll be having more fun than Sammy the Seahawk after a game-winning three-pointer.
