Is Worcester famous for any kind of restaurant or food in particular? What's the local favorite?
Worcester is the birthplace of the diner. In 1906 Philip Duprey and Irving Stoddard established the Worcester Lunch Car Company and built "night lunch wagons" from their Worcester factory, which they shipped all over the Eastern Seaboard until 1957. Many are still in existence, and they are characterized by porcelain enamel exteriors with mosaic tile floors and tile walls in the interiors. Boulevard Diner, Miss Worcester Diner, Parkway Diner are all examples of original diners.
