Mission Viejo is overflowing with beautiful and peaceful neighborhoods. Ladera Ranch, Stoneridge, and Painted Trails are all newer, quiet, family-friendly neighborhoods with close-knit communities. Stoneridge is a gated community that overlooks Oneil Regional Park with fantastic views of the lake. Probably. A couple of OCTA (Orange County Transportation Authority)'s bus lines run through town with service to Irvine, Newport Beach, Fullerton, Orange, and other nearby towns. An OCTA Metrolink train stop also sits right outside of town in Laguna Niguel with three lines that run to employment centers, as well as popular activity centers. The public transit system offers a safe, fast, and efficient alternative to driving. However, with such few stops nearby, many Mission Viejo residents use the network in conjunction with a car. Also notable, Mission Viejo is a fairly pedestrian-friendly town with some locals choosing to walk as another alternative mode of transportation.

Mission Viejo is conveniently located to an abundance of parks, most of which offer hiking, camping, and mountain biking. Limestone Canyon Park lies to north, while Caspers Regional Park is to the west and Laguna Park Wilderness Park is to the south. Several larger parks lie to the east, like Mount San Jacinto State Wilderness, and southeast, like Palomar Mountain State Park and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Located only 11 miles east of the ocean, Mission Viejo is also close to beaches that provide opportunities for surfing, swimming, and sunbathing.
