Riverside Community College

One of the oldest campuses in California, Riverside Community College opened just a couple of years before UCLA's main campus. In true California style, RCC is strong in the liberal arts and sciences, and has exceptionally strong athletic teams that have produced national level players in baseball, football and basketball. Performing arts and vocational education are also focuses of RCC, with over 35,000 students.

Riverside's Student Neighborhoods

Riverside has a culture and atmosphere quite distinct from the rest of LA, and with its close proximity to Ontario International Airport sees plenty of international tourists as well as locals. Apartments and housing rentals in the Wood Streets, Fairmount Park, Eastside and Belvedere Heights areas are your best bets for rentals close to school.

Things to do in Riverside

Riverside, and especially the Riverside Community College area, is great for students looking for easy access to the community. There are plenty of clothing and music stores, coffee shops, grocery stores, restaurants and bars all under a mile from the campus. Riverside city council also provides some public transport, with buses as well as trolley buses available to take you from your apartment to school... and a few other places!

Housing options for students at RCC

Many of the closest apartments and housing options to RCC are priced reasonably for students, ranging from $700 per month to $900 for apartments for rent within 1 to 4 miles of RCC. Move a touch further out from campus to find apartments starting at $640 per month, however these are in short supply. You can get plenty of extras with apartments starting at $900, with fitness centers, Wifi, playgrounds for big kids, pool and spa and business centers if your budget is flexible.

Despite Riverside's proximity to LA, America's second largest city, there are still a variety of outdoor activities to get your blood pumping, while RCC does the same for your brainwaves. Hiking and biking in the nearby hills are popular activities, but if you need an endorphin fix between classes, try the Threshold Indoor Rock Climbing Gym near RCC, open 7 days and with supportive staff, or take the power back with a martial arts class at Guang Ping Tai Chi Chuan. The instructor here has taught black belts in Jujitsu, Karate and Tae Kwon Do.

  • I'm looking for a safe area of Riverside for my son to get an apartment. He is attending CBU and would like it in that vicinity, if it safe. Any ideas?

As far as the safety is concerned, the safest place is around the campus because safety guards always patrol the campus. It means the farther you are from the campus, the more it is dangerous. So you should try to find an off campus housing that is near the university. Presidential Park and Ramona area will be good place to find a safety apartment.
