Colorado State
Colorado State University, home of the green and gold Rams, is a large public university in Fort Collins, Colorado. The school offers 150 degrees, so don’t be surprised if you end up changing your major a few times. CSU is a leading research university with notable research in cancer radiation, as well as environmental studies. That’s right, the kids at CSU really care about their environment, so don’t be seen throwing an empty plastic bottle into the trashcan. Major no bueno.
Off-Campus Housing Options
If you are just beginning college, this may not be the page for you. Colorado State requires that all freshmen live in campus housing. After their first year, however, students are running out the door to find their own places. In fact, only 26% of the student body (most likely all of them freshmen) live in the dorms. The rest are doing their own thing. In Fort Collins, students will find a variety of apartments at their disposal. Most of these are studios, one-bedrooms, or two-bedrooms, but there are also some single-family houses for rent if you have a large crew. Since on-campus housing isn’t guaranteed at all past your first year, searching for an apartment may be more a necessity than a choice. Read our apartment hunting guides to help you conquer your phobias and land the perfect rental.
Are You a Beer Fanatic?
The city of Fort Collins is at the base of the Rocky Mountains with a not-too-large population of 150,000. You better like beer if you live in Fort Collins, because there are many micro-breweries within a short distance from the Colorado State campus. A few of them include Old Colorado Brewing, CopperSmith’s, and C.B. & Potts. These breweries are great places to hold birthday celebrations with a big group of friends or to simply grab a drink with classmate after a long day of lectures and tests. Indulge a little sometimes. For a small city, Fort Collins offers you a lot of safe transportation options for exploring these breweries…without having to find a designated driver. There are many Transfort bus routes that service the city, and lots of new projects in the works, such as a comfortable new transit facility and MAX bus rapid transit!
