Brainy Brown Bears

Okay, so, seriously? Who doesn't have a few fun facts about Brown University Brown University? One of the most prestigious universities in the U.S., Brown is ranked the 15th best college by US News and World Report. Boy does it feel good to be a Brown Bear today. And why not, since the Brown Bears have 35 NCAA Division I sports teams? Their men's soccer team has continuously been one of the 25 top teams in the country. One of my personal favorite perks about Brown is that you also get to take classes at nearby Rhode Island School of Design, also a prestigious school in its own right. Two educations for the price of one? Sign me up, please. And you'll never be lonely at Brown with over 200 student organizations begging you to sign up.

Ditching the Dorms

For you lucky seniors who are finally ready to move off campus, the splendors of Providence await you! However, as you know, Providence doesn't have unlimited resources, so start your house hunt soon—apartments go fast. Housing is a wee bit on the pricey side, but creative students always find a way to make it work. For the best deals, look for housing in the spring. We recommend looking for housing on Brook and Cushing Streets, since they are close to Thayer Street. Governor Street and Wickenden Street are also popular.

Picturesque Providence

All jokes aside, Providence in November is a sight to behold. Think quintessential east coast autumn--piles of bright orange and red leaves on the ground, a clear skyline. When you've had your fill of gawking at the scenery, grab a cup of hot apple cider at XO Café XO Café and then skip over to Shark Sushi and Hibachi Shark Sushi for some delicious (and might I add very reasonably priced) sushi. For you big-breakfast eaters, devour pancakes to your heart's content at Julian’s, a favorite among students for those Sunday mornin' hangover blues. Or just ramble down Thayer Street for a feel (and a taste) of the town.

  • I've got dogs. What are the best places in Providence for being outdoors with pets?

Providence is definitely a dog friendly city with two off-leash dog parks, Gano Street Dog Park in the city and the Warwick Dog Park. There are plenty of other parks within the city to bring your dogs on a leash. Additionally, there are a handful of outdoor restaurants in Providence where you can bring your dogs such as Amy's Place on Wickenden Street or Hemingway's on Main Street.
