Is La Mirada famous for any kind of restaurant or food in particular? What's the local favorite?
Like any city in Southern California, many restaurants in La Mirada feature fresh local produce and, based on its proximity to the coast, seafood. Sushi is served at Pisces Sushi; in fact, cuisine from around the world is widely available in La Mirada, and there is a heavy Mexican influence. Cabo Grill is one of the best Mexican spots in the city. Other local staples include Big Straw Cafe, Gondola's Pizza, and Tam's Burgers.
Is La Mirada pet friendly?
Not being home to any off-leash dog areas, La Mirada itself isn't terribly pet-friendly. There are a few parks in town where you can take your pets as long as they are kept on leash, including La Mirada Park and Frontier Park. The larger parks, such as Arroyo Pescadero Park, Powder Canyon, and Schabarum Regional Park lie outside the La Mirada city limits to the north and offer various hiking trails. For the most open space around, the 1,000-acre Angeles National Forest is a little over 30 minutes north of La Mirada.
What does everyone in La Mirada do for fun in their spare time and on weekends?
Active La Mirada residents will want to get out of town and take advantage of the area's many hiking trails. These include those at Hellman Wilderness Park, Arroyo Pescadero Park, and Powder Canyon to the north, as well as Firestone Boy Scout Reservation and Chino Hills State Park to the east. In addition, Regional Park is home to the La Mirada Gymnasium, which hosts various sport leagues. La Mirada also has a decent arts scene, mostly based out of the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, as well as a movie theater, a disc golf course, and many restaurants and bars. Los Angeles, located 30 minutes northwest of La Mirada, also offers a slew of entertainment options.
