  • What neighborhoods in Columbia are good for eating out?

My favorite is the Five Point area of Columbia! Mr. Friendly's and Congaree Grill are about the best Southern food in the city and there are little places like the Salty Nut and Goatfeathers, which are just good places to hang out with friends. I could stick to Five Points and be pretty happy.

  • I've got dogs. What the the best places in Columbia for being outdoors with pets?

Columbia is dog friendly! There are four fenced dog parks most of which are in the outer suburban areas like Seven Oaks, Valencia Heights and at Sesquicentennial State Park. The state parks are great about providing areas. Even Finlay Park near downtown allows dogs, on leash of course, but it's so convenient too.

  • What areas of Columbia are safe for walking around at night?

The areas close to USC are all safe for walking around at night, including the Shandon, Rosewood, University Hill, and Wales Garden. The northeast and northwest sections of town are also known for being safe areas, including the popular Five Points neighborhood. According to neighborhoodscout.com, Columbia's neighborhoods with the lowest crime rates are Two Notch Rd, Devine St, Irmo, Windsor Estates, Trenholm Road, and Fairwold.

  • Why should I move to Columbia?

With a population of approximately 130,000, Columbia is the state capital and largest city in South Carolina. For those averse to cold weather, Columbia's humid subtropical climate features mild winters, warm springs and autumns, and very hot and humid summers. Columbia has also been ranked as one of the best places in the country to retire by CNNMoney.com and US News & World Report. It's also home to a vibrant arts, music, and theater scene.
