It all depends on what you consider family-friendly, although most people seem to have similar opinions on this matter. In fact, Montgomery's crime rate is quite a bit higher than average when compared to other cities of similar population size, as well as all cities. The second most important factor, in most cases, is high-quality public education. Unfortunately, Montgomery falls short on that account as well. Students are served by the Montgomery County School District, which was rated better than only 22.5 percent of school districts in Alabama and 9.6 percent of school districts in the country.
