Settled originally during the Gold Rush, Westminster today is a great Denver suburb with heavy emphasis on open space and recreation. Westminster maintains miles and miles of trails which are great for running, biking and hiking. Most of these trails connect to the many lakes and ponds in the region making it an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. The Butterfly and Insect Pavilion is wonderful for adults or children. It's where you can see huge cages of butterflies, spiders and even some rare specimen all living in a natural environment. There are any number of nearby cultural centers plus all the world class venues nine miles away in Denver.Westminster is best for a high quality of lifestyle with an emphasis on the outdoors.

There are any number of chain places some of which are very good, and you'll also find plenty of locally owned establishments. If you like steaks, the Saltgrass Steakhouse is a favorite chain style place, but the steaks are cooked perfectly and they've got key lime pie. A definite plus! Yak and Yeti is well-known for its Indian style food and Lucero's is a fine example of local Mexican food. Bova's is a locally owned Italian place where you can always count on the freshest of foods. Jim's Burger Heaven is the local diner. It has vinyl seats so it even looks right, and you can get out of there with plenty to eat for little money.

Westminster, Colorado is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, celebrated for its impressive trail and open space system. The ten-mile Big Dry Creek Trail connects the city to nearby scenic Standley Lake. Other trails run along Germers High Line Canal, Walnut Creek, and Little Dry Creek, where residents can walk, jog, run, bike, and view the local natural wildlife. Standley Lake Regional Park offers visitors a beautiful natural sanctuary for boating, camping, hiking, and fishing. Westminster is also home to its own golf courses, including Legacy Ridge and Heritage Golf Course.
Does Westminster have a downtown area where a lot of people walk around?
Yes, Westminster's Orchard Town Center is a pedestrian's haven with shops ranging from department stores to specialty stores, and eateries ranging from casual restaurant chains to fine dining locales. Not right now. Westminster is connected to other cities and towns in the Denver area by the Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD). This bus service, however, is best used for intracity transportation, because there is only one stop in Westminster. Therefore, most people in Westminster get around by car. RTD does plan on expanding the current public transit system, but for now the bus routes are limited and won't serve as a viable method of getting around town.

Based on safety and quality of education, Westminster is not a very family-friendly town. With a crime rate of 36 per 1,000 residents, Westminster's is near the average for all other communities of similar size. As far as education is concerned, public education is primarily provided by the Westminster School District. Comprising 24 schools serving nearly 10,000 students, this district was rated better than only 8.7 percent of school districts in Colorado and 21.2 percent of school districts in the country.
