If you're looking for West New York on a map, you might be having trouble finding it. That's because, despite its name, this city is actually in New Jersey (though it is very close to New York). At less than ten miles from Manhattan, West New York may not technically be in New York, but it's very close, and it is a part of the New York City Metropolitan Area.
One of the nice things about West New York is that it has access to the big, bustling city, and a number of great parks and open spaces. If you love spending time outdoors, you'll want to be sure to check out Liberty State Park, in the neighboring town of Jersey City. With the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline in the distance, this beautiful park has some of the most dramatic scenery around. It's also a great place to hike, jog, bike, picnic, kayak, play on the playgrounds, or just sit and watch the wondrous city in the distance. This park is also home to the Liberty Science Center, which has the largest IMAX theatre in the country and plenty of hands-on science exhibits for everyone in the family.
Children in West New York get their education through the West New York School District. There's one preschool, six elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school in the district. There are also several private schools in the area, including St. Joseph of the Palisades Grammar School.
