Wright Patman Lake lies just southwest of the town of Wake Village. It is a huge lake which provides much of the drinking water to the area, as well as a great place to do some water sports or check out the surrounding forest. There are numerous parks around the shore of the lake that offer picnic areas, campsites, and boat ramp access to the body of water, and it is also a favorite place for jet skiing and water skiing. For the beginner or more professional angling enthusiast, the lake is a known fishing location. Most parks are open year-round, but call ahead in the off-season.
Shades of Mexican Foo
The distinctions between authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex food are often grounds for a spirited debate in the area. Each side has loyal followers, but those caught in the middle are the luckiest because they get to enjoy all of the delicious food. There are examples of both types of cuisine in the Wake Village area. For example, Ironwood Grill bills itself as an American restaurant, but the menus have an upscale Tex-Mex influence. The specialty tacos are always popular and the fried avocado is a great vegetarian option. For contrast, Colima's is a more traditional Mexican restaurant in town which has gained notoriety for doing familiar dishes extremely well.
