Is Waikoloa a good place for families?
Located on the island of Hawaii, Waikoloa is an okay place for families. As of the 2000 census, which recorded a population of 4,806, there were 1,750 households out of which 41.2 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them, lending to a very family-oriented community. Waikoloa is also located right on the ocean, meaning its beaches and surf provide many recreational opportunities for parents and children alike. In addition, there is a lot of park land on the island, so families living in Waikoloa can easily enjoy nature. However, Waikoloa--along with the rest of the state of Hawaii--is very expensive, and the village has high crime and unemployment rates.

Is Waikoloa pet friendly?
Yes, Waikoloa is very pet-friendly. Although it isn't home to any off-leash dog parks, there are plenty of other places where you can bring your pets as long as they are kept on leash, such as Hapuna Beach State Park in nearby South Kohala. In addition, Waikoloa is located very close to several larger open spaces, including the Kohala Forest Reserve, the Pu'u O Umi Natural Area Reserve, and the Hamakua Forest Reserve, where you can go hiking with your pets. The Hilo Forest Reserve and the Upper Waiakea Forest Reserve, both located to the south of Waikoloa, are also great for spending time outdoors with pets.
