Vicksburg National Mi

The Siege of Vicksburg was a 47-day event that spelled the end for the Confederacy in the Civil War. Because such an important event took place in this city, there are a lot of historical resources dedicated to this event, and the Vicksburg National Military Park is one of the most popular. This public park has many features that help bring the Siege to life, including reconstructed battle trenches and military forts. Other features include historic cannons and the old ironside gunboat U.S.S. Cairo, which was restored after being sunk in battle. The park also features a walking trail for exercise.

Riverfront Murals

Art lovers and history buffs will be delighted by the beautiful murals running along the banks of the Mississippi in downtown Vicksburg. These murals, which were painted by local artists between 2002 and 2009, are located on the floodwalls of the riverbank, giving visitors and residents the opportunity to stroll down the riverfront while taking in the paintings. The murals are presented as separate units, each vividly depicting a specific event or landmark. The subjects of these paintings are related to the history of Vicksburg and depict events like the Civil War Siege of Vicksburg.

Gambling is legal (though heavily regulated) in the state of Mississippi, and this is a big tourist draw for the state as a whole, but something residents also delight in. Vicksburg is no exception, and the city's nightlife options are studded with casinos. Even if gambling is not exactly your idea of a good time, most of these casinos offer something for everyone. Some even have historical significance, operating out of historic paddlewheel boats that hearken back to the early days of Mississippi River gambling. Gamblers will find plenty of entertainment in these establishments, offering standard casino games in addition to food, drinks, and entertainment.
