The biggest draw for a little town like Vestal is most definitely the nearby university. State University of New York at Binghamton, more often know as SUNY B for short, is a well-known public institution that excels at research based programs and is commonly known as a “Public Ivy” for their level of academic excellence. They may have started as a small liberal arts college but, with more than 15,000 students, a doctoral program, and heavy research facilities, they have come into their own and become a top-notch institution for the state of New York.
Parks and Rec
Being in upstate New York means the summers are hot and the leaves change in the fall. These are the two best times of year to be outdoors and enjoy it all. Luckily, Vestal has more than 21 town-operated and maintained parks that give you a taste of the great outdoors without having to venture farther than the city limits. Arnold Park is the largest and most well known, and has all the amenities, such as picnic tables, soccer fields, nature trails, volleyball courts, ice skating, and more. Take a day to relax and soak up some sun outdoors if office life is getting you down.
Shop till you Drop
Being a college town means that local businesses need to cater to the younger crowd, and with six different shopping squares in Vestal alone, they have the formula down. Town Square Mall, The Shoppes at Vestal, and University Plaza all have the typical accouterments of college life: Coffee shops, gourmet pizza, bookstores, popular retail locations, and more. It is not just for the younger crowd, however. If you want to get your weekend shopping for the family out of the way, there are some great big box stores nearby where you can get it all done in one fell swoop.
