Virginia College Huntsville

Confusingly, you won't be anywhere near Virginia while studying at this Virginia College. The original university was located in Virginia, but the chain of universities has now spread over the southern part of the United States. Virginia College offers courses related to specific professions, rather than fields of study.

From Twickenham to Rocket City

Huntsville was first incorporated as Twickenham, way back when in 1805. It was only seven years later that it was renamed to Huntsville, after the first settler John Hunt. The half-a-million strong city came to have the nickname 'Rocket City' when the NASA Marschall Space Flight Center was built there in the 20th century.

While there are some facilities within easy walking distance of the Huntsville campus of Virginia College, you'll need a car or another form of transportation to see most of the city. Coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores, clothing stores and incidentally, hardware stores are all within a quarter mile walk of school, but for most other amenities you'll need motor power.

Huntsville Neighborhoods for Virginia College StudentsConstellation, Steelwood Park, Griff's Glen and Bellewood Park are all neighborhoods within easy reach of school, that have residential zones within them. Constellation is one of the most heavily populated, while the other three neighborhoods all back onto the Huntsville Golf course. Look for Bellewood Park apartments for rent to be closest to school.

Hunting for Huntsville Housing

Alabama is one of the most affordable states in the entire country for housing, and Huntsville is no exception. The residential areas have much more housing and far fewer facilities (reflecting the Virginia College area walk score of 65 out of 100).

There are plenty of apartments for rent under $400 per month, as well as the odd under $300 for the lucky few. You shouldn't need to pay more than $500 per month for an apartment, even if you are looking for a two bedroom place. Happily, nor should you have to go more than three miles from school to get home!

Dining and Nightlife in Huntsville

You may need to get your skates on, or settle for cafeteria food at Virginia College - there is little in the way of very close dining. If you can survive a few-block walk, though, check out Blue Plate Café or Bando Burrito Company for lunches.

If you want to get out of the Huntsville area and check out what Alabama as a whole has to offer, the Jazz n' June Festival is popular, as is the Rogersville Fall Festival and the Crape Myrtle Festival. On regular days check out The Nook or Finnegan's Pub for nightlife, both quite close to Virginia College at Huntsville.
