Turn on the Tumwater

If it really is all about location, location, location, Tumwater should be your go-to for a great new hometown. The city is on the Puget Sound, by the Budd Inlet and the Deschutes River, making it one of the most gorgeous, peaceful locales in the country. Tumwater is also conveniently located just minutes from the state capitol, Olympia, and just an hour away from the biggest city in the state, Seattle. Talk about the best of both worlds!

Out and About

When you want to take advantage of the beautiful scenery that surrounds you, you'll have lots of options in Tumwater. This city has beautiful parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, trails, and open spaces to get you moving and grooving (or chillin' like a villain–whatever floats your boat). If you like to spend time hitting little dimpled balls into holes, Tumwater has oodles of courses where you can swing and swat at that ball like a pro (or like a lunatic, depending on your skill level). Check out Tumwater Valley Golf Course and Capitol City Golf Club to get started. Birders will also discover that Tumwater is truly a paradise as this city has some of the best birding around. If you’re into the tweet life, check out the Black Hills Audubon Society to find out more about bird watching in the area.

You won't find a more peaceful, beautiful refuge from the hustle and bustle of modern life than Tumwater Falls Park. You can enjoy hiking along the park's trails and staring in awe at those beautiful falls. There's plenty of wildlife watching going on here as well, so bring the binoculars and the camera. If you'd like to make a day of it, pack a picnic lunch and, if you have little ones, plan on a stop at the children’s play area. A visit to Tumwater Falls Park is one you won't soon forget!

The Olympia Tumwater Nonprofit Foundation, which is housed in the historic Schmidt House in the Tumwater Historic District, takes care of this park and the preservation of the town's history. Speaking of history, Tumwater was founded in 1845, and is actually considered to be the first established community north of the Columbia River. To learn all about Tumwater's past, check out two museums in town: the Crobsy House and the Henderson House.

Indoor Entertainment

Are you a fan of flying things that zoom through the sky? No, we're not asking about your thoughts on UFOs, we're just asking if you're into regular, plain old, IFOs. If you are, you'll want to head over to the Olympic Flight Museum, where you can check out an awesome collection of planes. You can also attend a special program such as Paper Airplane Flight School. That sounds pretty darn awesome if you ask us.

If you’re feeling lucky, there are several casinos in the area to try out. Visit the Little Creek Casino, Lucky Eagle Casino, and the Red Wind Casino to get started. Just remember not to gamble with the rent money!

Get Thee to Olympia

Olympia, Washington's capital, is minutes away from your new place in Tumwater, making it easy to take advantage of everything that this city has to offer. Catch a play, musical, or concert at the Washington Center for the performing arts, go to the Hands on Children’s Museum, or check out the Capitol Museum for a fun day or evening out.
