The Old Tuckerton and the Sea

If you go gaga over history, check out the Tuckerton Historical Society, which preserves local history so that future generations will be able to enjoy it. It maintains several exhibits at the Giffordtown Schoolhouse Museum, including an old Telephone Switchboard, a railroad display, and an old classroom that’s sure to take you back to the old days. Tuckerton’s current residents love the Tuckerton Seaport and you will too. The seaport, which is on the Tuckerton Creek, is lined by historic buildings. A visit to the seaport is a fun, educational experience for everyone in the family. You can come to walk the boardwalk, trek along the nature trails, and imagine what it was like here in the past. You can even take a tour of a classic wooden charter boat from the 1950s. If you’re dying to learn a little more about life beneath the waves, the Jacques Cousteau National Estuarine Research Centre has exhibits that bring you face to face with the plant and animal life of the sea and special programs that each focus on a different sea creature. The Tuckerton Seaport also organizes a variety of special programs, including sailing lessons, art classes, activities, workshops, and tours, so be sure to keep an eye on the calendar of events.
