Beaver Island State P
The Niagara River is all a-buzz with activity during Tonawanda's summer months, and Beaver Island State Park is a great jumping off point for getting on the water. The park's 950 acres include a half a mile of sandy beach as well as a marina so you can easily boat to or from the park. There are also lots of sports-based amenities you can play around with when relaxing on shore, with horseshoes, 18-hole golf and disc golf courses, and canoe and kayak launches. There is even a nature center so families can learn about the wildlife in the park.
University at Buffalo
Part of the SUNY system, the University at Buffalo is the highest-ranked public college in the state. The school has more than 400 areas of study that students can pursue, making it nearly impossible not to find what you want at the university. University students regularly garner national honors such as Marshall scholarships, National Science Foundation grants, Fulbright grants, and then some. The university is large enough that it can offer individualized schools, such as the Honors College and the Center for Undergraduate Research. Study abroad opportunities are also plentiful with more than five times the national average of University at Buffalo students studying abroad.
Martin's Fantasy Isla
If you want a fun-filled, excitement-packed day and you do not mind getting wet, come on over to Martin's Fantasy Island. For more than 50 years, Martin's has been a part of Tonawanda's summer memories, and for good reason: The rides, shows, and fun atmosphere of the park are impossible to deny, making Martin's the premier vacation destination in the western part of the state. The park's thrilling rides will sate the desires of any adrenaline junkie. In addition to rides, the park has a Wild West shootout every day in "Western Town," Pirate Theatre, and other shows sure to satisfy the kids.
