With so many parks and recreational areas in Swatara, there is always something for everyone to do outdoors. Memorial Park spans over 16 acres and contains picnic shelters, playground equipment, and infant swings. Softball fields and basketball courts are also located in the park so you can participate in a friendly game with family and friends. Georgetown Park is a great place to take the little ones with its variety of playground areas and clean sandboxes. You can also enjoy a quiet lunch at one of the picnic facilities or open spaces.
Enjoy the natural beauty of the area by spending some time on the Swatara Trail. You can even rent a canoe and experience travel as the forefathers did. Along the way you will get a glimpse of old farms, barns, and different forested areas, offering a trip through history. Lava deposits and canal locks can also be seen. You will find a variety of places along the way where you can rent canoes for the day. The 60-mile segment of trail will take you through various towns where you can stop for a meal or spend some time shopping.
National Night Out
Take part in the National Night Out Event that takes place each year in Swatara. The event rocks the town each August at Vanatta Park and will provide you and your family with a fun-filled experience. By attending the night out, you will create community bonds and meet various officers and emergency personnel that helps to secure the area. Free throw contests, pie eating competitions, and live entertainment are featured here, as well as other fun activities. Free giveaways are offered as an added bonus. Before you leave, be sure to meet McGruff the Crime Dog to thrill the little ones.
