Sunnyside is home to a host of artists so it is only fitting that an organization be formed to showcase all that local talent. The Flux Factory opened its doors in the early 1990s with the promise to make it easy for locals to show off their work, no matter what their financial circumstances may be. Today, the Flux Factory still ensures that artists are able to thrive, while giving residents a chance to be entertained. Thanks to the Flux Factory, it does not matter if you are an established artist or not to get your art on display for local eyes to enjoy.
St. Patrick's Day Par
Each year, Irish Sunnyside residents, as well as those who are Irish at heart, prepare for and attend the local St. Patrick's Day Parade. The parade traditionally takes place just a couple weeks before St. Patrick's Day and even though it is fairly small, the press offers exposure of the parade due to its rich heritage. The event showcases local Irish talents, including bagpipers and dancers. Once the parade has made it through its entire route, there is a celebration at Saints and Sinners Irish Pub that welcomes all to come and celebrate.
Each Saturday, from June through December, Sunnyside residents can enjoy shopping at the local farmers' market. The Sunnyside Greenmarket offers the community more than just a place to get their week's worth of fresh fruits and vegetables. You can purchase superior seafood, Mexican produce, grass fed beef, specialty cheeses, and even locally made wines. Enjoy sweet baked goods and a quick lunch of freshly prepared meals all while shopping the market. In the spirit of staying green, residents are also welcome to bring their compost to the Greenmarket each Saturday to promote an environmentally friendly community.
