Sunny Isles Beach: Welcome to Paradise
A popular spot for MTV's official Spring Break shenanigans, this bikini-soaked spot north of Miami knows a thing or two about having fun. Located on a barrier island, the city bandied about the motto "The Venice of America" back when it was just getting on its toes back in 1920. Though actual Venetians may quibble with such a designation, the folks in Sunny Isles Beach seem to like it just fine.

Sunny Isles Beach: Come Home, America
This part of the country is a retirement mecca, and for good reason. The warm sunshine, the beaches, and well, you know the rest. And while southern Florida may very well be the most southern portion of the country, it isn't really ""the South"" in the way that term is usually meant. Those that make the area home know this, and indulge in the fact that in many ways places like Sunny Isles Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, and Miami allow for an active, or relaxing, lifestyle with the substitution of freezing rain for 70 degree weather.
Sunny Isles Beach was once a place with aspirations for being the mother of all tourist traps, with an attractive pier and assorted hotels, one even named after novelist Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead, drawing visitors from far and wide. But really more far than wide. Florida's a rather skinny state after all. But in time dreams gave way to reality, and today the city prefers to promote itself not as the place to don fanny packs and fold out maps, but rather nearby to entities like Miami and Key West. This city is for living, not for visiting, which just so happens to work out well for you, now doesn't it?
Sunny Isles Beach: What of It, And What to Do With It?
There's loads to do here, but let's focus on the bread and butter stuff. Namely, bread and butter. Restaurants abound in Sunny Isles Beach, and there are few better places with which to illustrate that fact than the Azzurro Italian Restaurant and Bar. Getting back to that cosmopolitanism we alluded to earlier, Azzurro's is a fine example. Here you can taste the finest in Sicilian cuisine, and a horn of plenty's worth of cocktails we might add, while overlooking not the Mediterranean Sea but the Atlantic Ocean. The weather's so good 'round these parts, the restaurant even has a thatch roof. Heck, you can't beat that with a stick. Or even a piece of driftwood.
Moving along, try the flavorings of Lula's Kebab House for a taste of something really different: Kazakh food. Catering to the broader Russian community (of which Kazakhstan was once a part, but that's a complicated story), but with an obvious goal to get everyone else in its doors too, Lula's offers an array of meats, rice, soups, and "Borscht" that'll keep any patron satisfied.
After dispensing with the gastrointestinal gluttony, it's time to move on to another form of indulgence: alcohol. Eden's in nearby South Beach has got you covered on this score. And while it's got food too, the point is to drink, so stay focused. Headed up by chef Christopher Lee, the place has got a lot going for it. And it could be just around the corner from your new apartment!
Well, enjoy! Really, it's all smiles from here on out. Well, once you move into that new apartment.
