Nature is never far from the people of Springfield Gardens thanks to beautiful Idlewild Park, a natural refuge in the heart of the city. The park is home to one of the few salt marshes in the area, a prime example of this vital habitat. Grasslands and dune swales abound in the park, giving visitors beautiful views of the habitat from the park's elevated trails. The park is also part of the Atlantic Flyway, a corridor used by many birds during their migrations. However, while the bald eagle no longer nests in New York, the flyway guarantees it is still visible within in the city.
August Martin High Sc
The children of Springfield Gardens do not lack for an education that will prepare them for college due to August Martin High School being just up the road. The school's entire mission is to prepare students for college and the world after high school, with students regarded (and regarding themselves) as future college students first from day one. The school uses five academies structured around actual career fields to get students involved in learning. The school has a number of partnerships with businesses in the community that allow students to enhance their academic studies with real-world experience.
Springfield Gardens C
Springfield Gardens has a good number of churches for such a small neighborhood, and the Church of the Nazarene is a great example. The church has stood for more than 100 years, providing a loving community and a multitude of services to the Springfield Gardens area. The church's ministries include men's and women's ministries and a musical ministry program as well as a branch of Nazarene Youth International. The church puts on no small number of fundraisers throughout the year, many of which have mountains of delicious Caribbean-style food from Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, and many other countries.
