The school district consists of four elementary schools, three middle schools, and three high schools. Some of the best in the area include Desoto Central Elementary, Desoto Central Middle School, Desoto Central High School, and Southaven Middle School. These schools are highly regarded for their principal leadership, teacher quality, extracurricular activities, parent involvement, safety, and discipline. Three private schools also reside within the area including the Southern Baptist Education Center, Sacred Heart School, and the Highway Baptist Christian Academy.

Southaven is a suburb of Memphis, Tennessee and the third largest city in the state. Situated south of the Mason-Dixon line, Southaven experiences a humid subtropical climate. While Southaven receives an average annual precipitation of nearly 55 inches, the winters don't get too cold. For the intellectual set, two institutions of higher learning are located in Southaven: the University of Mississippi - Desoto and Northwest Mississippi Community College. Southaven is also said to have friendly neighborhoods, great schools, burgeoning businesses, and exciting sporting events.
How much should I expect to pay for utilities in Southaven each month, depending on the time of year?
Since Southaven has a climate that varies month by month, utilities will change from season to season. Naturally, heating will drive bills up in the winter, just as the use of air conditioning will in the summer months. On average, however, gas and electric should not exceed $280 per month for a family of five. The water bill should amount to about $30.
Is Southaven pet friendly?
Despite not being home to any off-leash dog parks, Southaven is still pet-friendly. Most places that are good for spending time outdoors with pets, however, lie across the state line in Tennessee. Memphis' parks include Zodiac Park, Mississippi Park, Otis Redding Park, Dalstrom Park, Roosevelt Park, and Raines-Finley Park. One of the best places in the area to take your pets is the T.O. Fuller State Park, which encompasses over 1,000 acres and is located about 20 minutes northwest of Southaven in Memphis.
