    South San Francisco has a small downtown area located west of Highway 101. With various storefronts and restaurants, the section of Grand Avenue, or "Grand," from Chestnut to Airport is considered downtown South San Francisco. The town library and city hall are adjacent to on this strip. Caltrain, the Bay Area commuter rail, is also located right off of the downtown area.

    It depends on what you're looking for. As a city of over 60,000 people, South San Francisco offers many of the metropolitan benefits that some young people are looking for, such as restaurants, bars, cafes, and other young people. About 9 percent of South San Francisco's population is between the ages of 18 and 24, while 15 percent falls between 25 and 34, and another 30 percent is between the ages of 35 and 54. It's also 49 percent cheaper than the city of San Francisco, its neighbor to the north.
