  • Does South Haven have any famous museums or exhibitions?

South Haven is home to a host of museums. Perhaps its most famous, the Michigan Maritime Museum offers permanent and changing exhibits on Michigan maritime history, a center for boat building instruction and related maritime skills, and a research library. The Liberty Hyde Bailey Museum highlights the accomplishments of Liberty Hyde Bailey, after whom the museum is named. The Historical Association of South Haven, which now operates out of the old Hartman School, is devoted to documenting and recounting the city's history. The Michigan Flywheelers Museum encourages visitors to experience the life of early local farmers by providing attractions like exhibits of antique flywheel engines and tractors.

  • Is South Haven a good place for younger people?

With a population of about 5,000, South Haven is a city in Van Buren County, Michigan. Compared to the rest of the country, the cost of living in South Haven is 3 percent lower than the US average, making it a decent place for the budget-conscious younger set (although certainly not the best). South Haven isn't a great place for young people who are looking for an adequate nightlife, or more of their kind. Since just 16 percent of South Haven residents fall between the ages of 18 and 34, it seems that it's more popular with families. In fact, 28 percent of the population falls between the ages of 35 and 54, and 23 percent falls under the age of 18 (leaving 33 percent over the age of 54).

  • Is the cost of living in South Haven higher relative to surrounding areas or other cities?

Although the cost of living in South Haven is 2 percent lower than the US average, it's higher than most--but not all--surrounding towns. To the north, Douglas is on par with South Haven while Saugatuck is 14 percent more expensive. To the northeast, Fennville is 10 percent cheaper than South Haven and Alleghan is 9 percent cheaper. To the east, Bloomingdale is 11 percent cheaper than South Haven, and to the southwest, Bangor is 16 percent cheaper than South Haven. Finally, Hagar to the south is 6 percent cheaper than South Haven.
