Colonial Simpsonville

History- In the 1820's, Simpsonville was established as a stage stop on Old Stage Road, which sparked the development of the town. By the 1830's Silas Gilbert opened Simpsonville's first general merchandising shop, Peter Simpson had launched the town's first blacksmith shop, and a local post office was created. The first church sprung up in 1870 and Simpsonville High School was established in 1885. During the early 1900's the Woodside Cotton Mill provided much of the employment for the region and remained the town's largest employer through WWII. In the 1950's a major water line was laid in town and highway 276 was widened, triggering a new period of residential and industrial growth for Simpsonville. By 1994, Simpsonville was one of the fastest growing cities in the nation and today remains a flourishing suburban community with a population of 15,000.

Wonderful Parks and Recreation

With six local parks and a plethora of community events scattered throughout the year, the city of Simpsonville's parks and recreation department offers something for residents young and old. The 15-acre Central Park is the largest of the city's parks, featuring a playground, baseball field, basketball court, tennis courts, and picnic facilities. The town's massive 35,000 square foot Activity Center opened in 1998 and boasts a gym, seniors lounge, activity room, kitchen, and concession area. The town's community center runs an array of both youth and adult sports leagues including softball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, and football. The town is also home to a variety of small lakes, popular destinations for fishing or boating.
