Silver Spring, Maryland
Silver Spring is a city located just north of Washington, D.C. and is home to just under 77,000 residents. It was founded by Francis Preston Blair, who was a newspaper publisher and supporter of Andrew Jackson. He found the site while horseback riding, thought it was beautiful and built a summer home which he called Silver Spring.
The name actually comes from a geological formation of mica in a spring which makes it sparkle.Silver Spring is now a bustling city and is home to the Discover Network as well as other large businesses.
It is also considered a convenient and excellent commuter community with direct links into Washington. The downtown area is once again a vibrant center and living in your Silver Spring apartment will be a great experience.
Silver Spring Amenities
The area is rich in lifestyle amenities. There are several large parks (Rock Creek, Acorn, Argyle and others) which provide all types of recreational activities from hiking, swimming, ball fields, basketballs courts and more. The city is also the site of the AFI theatre which shows very good indy films and attracts moviegoers from D.C. and other areas.

Is Silver Spring a good place for younger people?
With a population of about 71,000, Silver Spring is a census-designated place in Montgomery County, Maryland. Despite the fact that it is not a very large city, many people in their 20s and 30s number among Silver Spring's residents. This could in part be due to its location, which is about 30 minutes north of Washington, D.C., which makes it a great place for younger people that need to commute into the capital for work but prefer to live in smaller, more manageable community. Silver Spring's proximity to many of the area's parks also makes it a good choice for active younger people.
