A Sound Place to Call Home…
Located just a few minutes north of Seattle, Shoreline, Washington is a great city for people who are looking for a fun-loving town just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the big city. There are just over 50,000 people who live here, making it a small enough city that renters can get to know their neighbors and a large enough city that there’ll always be something fun to do. For those who are looking for a slightly larger social circle, Seattle, a city of 600,000 is just on the southern border of Shoreline. Renters can be in the city within a few minutes. As its name suggests, Shoreline is on the shores of Puget Sound making it a great place for people who enjoy the tang of salt in the air and the soothing sounds of small waves lapping up along the edge of town.
Having a Sporting Good Time
Sports enthusiasts will find themselves right at home in Shoreline. Nearby Seattle is home to a number of professional teams, including the Seahawks in football, the Mariners in baseball and the Thunderbirds in ice hockey. For renters who like to follow lesser-known sports, Seattle also has you covered with an Australian football team (which is kind of like soccer and played on a cricket field), a couple of rugby teams (which is kind of like American football but more ferocious), a lacrosse team (which is a true test of precision and hand-eye coordination), and an ultimate team (the sport that’s played with a heavy flying disk, though not of the name-brand variety). With so much variety in events, sports fans will be able to enjoy cheering on the home team nearly every day of the year.
For those who like to get in on the action, Shoreline is home to quite a few different “drop-in” sports teams (where you show up at the designated time if you’d like to play, with no need to commit to a whole season). It’s also home to the only curling club on the west coast. If you’ve never seen curling before, it’s worth checking out. This sport is similar in concept to shuffle board but about ten times bigger. And with ice.
Green and Blue All Over
The city of Shoreline may not have official colors but if it did, they’d be green and blue. Why? Because the city’s right on the shore of the big, blue Puget Sound and it’s doing its part to keep the planet green. You don’t have to be the tree hugging type to move to Shoreline (though the neighbors wouldn’t think anything of it if you were), but one of the perks of living here is that you can take pride in knowing that your city is doing its part to save the planet. Over the past few years, Shoreline has worked hard to create a sustainable community. It’s encouraged businesses to make better use of green energy, apartment builders to incorporate green materials into their new construction projects, and renters to trade in the gas-guzzling SUV for a smartcar or a bike and a bus pass. All this green, is, of course, great for the planet, but it’s also great for your wallet as a renter. The use of all these sustainable materials and energy sources can save renters a lot of money by cutting down on their energy bills.
Bright Lights and Bright Sunshine
Northwestern Washington is known as being a wet, rainy, and sometimes gloomy part of the country. Though there may not be months and months of sunny days up here, there are more than people give the area credit fo,r and renters who are living in Shoreline will be able to pay a visit to one of the many city parks. On hot summer days, renters can visit Richmond Beach Park to play in the surf of the sound. Cooler days are perfect for heading out to the fishing ponds and streams that dot the city. When the rain starts to fall, there are ample indoor activities to enjoy both in Shoreline and in nearby Seattle. Renters can explore museums, see live shows, dine at the top of the Space Needle and explore the subterranean city below modern Seattle. The people of the Seattle area are prepared for a rainy day or 200—renters simply need to head out of their apartments and enjoy the fun all around.
