In the center of the city is the beautiful Shively Park. This park is a place for friends, family, and neighbors to gather and play while getting some fresh air. There are plenty of facilities at the park, such as children's playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball hoops, and walking trails, so you and your family will never run out of ways to get active and enjoy the outdoors. The park also features a large community center offering several programs for adults and children throughout the year. The center is also available to rent for weddings, receptions, meetings, and other parties.
Southern Soul Food at
Just off of Dixie Highway in Shively is one of the most beloved restaurants in the Louisville area: Franco's Restaurant. Franco's serves up authentic Southern soul food, the kind that you wish your mom could make. The top two items on the menu are the fried catfish and the smothered pork chops, and you cannot go wrong ordering either of them. Served with some macaroni and cheese, greens or mashed potatoes, be ready for some generous portion sizes. Beware, however, that this is a very popular joint, and the line can be quite long during the dinner rush.
The Shively Festival
Each June, the Shively community comes together to celebrate their town at the annual Shively Festival. Taking place for an entire weekend, the festival kicks off with special events on Friday night. These events include many fun contests that everyone from the family can get involved in, such as karaoke, a dog show, horseshoes, poker, and a dessert bake-off. Do not party too hard, however, because on Saturday morning, the festival kicks off again with a pancake breakfast complete with eggs and sausage. Then the festivities continue throughout the day until a fireworks spectacular brings the festival to a close at dusk.
