Shawnee Mission, Kansas, is a name given to a number of townships in and around the Kansas City, Kansas metropolitan area. The towns that comprise the area referred to as Shawnee Mission include Countryside, Fairway, Lake Quivira, Leawood, Lenexa, Merriam, Mission, Mission Hills, Mission Woods, Overland Park, Prairie Village, Roeland Park, Shawnee, Westwood, and Westwood Hills. If all of these cities were to decide to become a single municipality, it would become the most populous city in Kansas.
In the various towns that make up the area known as Shawnee Mission, there are some public transportation options. For Johnson County residents, there is Johnson County Transit, or “the JO,” whose projected figures estimate that 2,000 riders use their system every day. Fewer than one percent of Shawnee Mission workers walk to work, well below the national average. Driving is the most popular mode of transportation.
