Looking Back
San Lorenzo was settled in 1841 when the eastern shore of the San Francisco Bay became popular with Mexican ranchers for its fertile soil and strong crop yield. It became known as “Squattersville” during the San Francisco Gold Rush as miners from all over the United States, eager to strike it rich, made the practice of living in the area buildings. World War II brought the war industry to the East Bay and San Lorenzo Village was master planned to accommodate the influx of people in the area. It was one of the first master planned communities of its kind in the nation.
Modern San Lorenzo
Today San Lorenzo sits between Oakland to the north and Fremont to the south in a long chain of cities encircling the Bay Area. There are numerous parks and golf courses throughout the area, making it a beautiful place to live, and MyNewPlace can help you find an apartment in a place that works for you. Looking for a rental near a school? The San Lorenzo Unified School District provides primary and secondary education and operates 23 schools in the area. Popular shopping, dining, and entertainment centers include the Bayfair Center and the Southland Mall. There are several community colleges in the area, including Chabot College, Heald College, and Laney College. Though it is primarily a commuter town, major employers include the County of Alameda and the school district. Many people travel to San Leandro in the north or Hayward to the south for work. Both I-580 and I-880 run parallel through town connecting you with the greater area and shortening your commute time.
The Bay Area
San Lorenzo is a part of the greater San Francisco Bay Area and that means your new apartment will put you in prime position to enjoy all the great cultural, economic, and even entertainment benefits a large metropolitan area has to offer. Nearby Oakland has numerous draws that make it a fantastic day trip for you and your entire family. Looking for an active, educational afternoon? The Oakland Zoo features more than 400 species of animals. Want to head out to the big game? Oakland is home to the NFL's Raiders, MLB's A's, and NBA's Warriors. A short drive to the south and you're in Fremont, home to its own share of attractions like the Ardenwood Historic Farm, Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum, and the ever-popular and gorgeous Fremont Central Park, a 450-acre destination for walking, running, picnicking, and relaxing.
