Because Salt Lake City was founded by Mormons, much of the historical and cultural activities still focus on The Church of the Latter Day Saints. Classical music and art are well represented in the city. There are many festivals and annual events that attract not only locals but the world. There are eight major ski resorts within 50 miles of downtown. The Utah Jazz provide the city's professional sports team but other sports have many fans in some of the minor league areas too.

Atmosphere in the Mountains

For years the restaurant scene in SLC was all about family dining, but in recent years more and more options and cuisines have firmly implanted themselves on the city's landscape. The Red Iguana is fantastic Mexican food, Tuscany is excellent Italian food with phenomenal atmosphere, and the Cedars of Lebanon offers up some very good Middle Eastern fare. There are great pubs like Murphy's Bar and Grill who serve comfort foods like shepherd's pie. Once in your Salt Lake City apartment, you can start your own list of new favorites.

Brew Pubs Galore

Nightlife in Salt Lake City starts with its many brew pubs. Squatters, The Desert Edge, and Wasatch Brewery are good ones to start with, and add to as you go along. There are dive bars like Andy's Place and Liquid Joe's which are worth checking out, and for more upscale venues The Red Door should suffice nicely. When you are settled in your Salt Lake City apartment, it will be time to find your own neighborhood pub.

Salt Lake City is one of the jewels of the West, and what a place to call home.
