Rockford is a small city tucked away along the Rock River on the northern end of Illinois. It is the third largest city in the state and just a short drive from Chicago, yet it maintains its small town feel. Rockford is easy to navigate by car and has very few traffic problems. There are three major roads that connect downtown with outgoing highways and the nearby airport, so access to areas is simple. The Rockford Mass Transit District provides 40 fixed bus routes throughout Rockford as well as Loves Park and the Village of Machesney Park. Rockford is a small city, so walking and biking is doable but not always recommended.
