Local Talk

Get answers about Rock Springs from local experts or tell us what you love about it.

  • What are some quiet neighborhoods in Rock Springs?

There are many quiet neighborhoods in Rock Springs. One of them is Sweeney Ranch / Arrowhead Springs. With mostly single-family, medium-sized dwellings, this area is a mix of owners and renters of differing ages. Clearview Acres / North Rock Springs is another low-noise neighborhood in Rock Springs.

  • Do most people in Rock Springs rely on public transportation?

No, a large proportion of the people in Rock Springs do not rely on public transportation. With a population of about 21,000, Rock Springs is a small city, and, as is typical with smaller towns, the population isn't dense enough to support a viable public transportation system. There are many rural roads around Rock Springs, which makes even walking or biking to and from work rather difficult. All of these factors make for a very car-oriented town. Fortunately for those that do drive, Rock Springs experiences very little traffic: the average commute to work is 19 minutes.

  • Are there museums in Rock Springs or nearby?

Rock Springs has one museum, the Rock Springs Historical Museum. Housed in the original Rock Springs City Hall built in 1894, the museum now displays many rotating exhibits on the history of Rock Springs with special emphasis on the area's coal mining and multi-national heritage. Just down the road in Green River is the Sweetwater County Museum, which contains permanent and temporary exhibits, a large historical photograph collection, and local history research material. Its goal is to preserve the history of Sweetwater County.
