With a population of about 21,000, Rock Springs is a small city, and, as is typical with smaller towns, the population isn't dense enough to support a viable public transportation system. Rock Springs has one museum, the Rock Springs Historical Museum. Housed in the original Rock Springs City Hall built in 1894, the museum now displays many rotating exhibits on the history of Rock Springs with special emphasis on the area's coal mining and multi-national heritage. Just down the road in Green River is the Sweetwater County Museum, which contains permanent and temporary exhibits, a large historical photograph collection, and local history research material. Its goal is to preserve the history of Sweetwater County.
