The District

The Rock Island Arts and Entertainment District, affectionately known as "The District", is one of the most popular areas in all of Rock Island. When you crave a night out of dancing and dining, there are over a dozen pubs, restaurants, and clubs ready to show you a good time. If you would rather see a show, you may find yourself at the Circa 21 Dinner Playhouse and Speakeasy, or you may take in a comedy skit over at The Establishment Theater. With dining, shopping, and entertainment available, you really do not need to leave The District to meet all your needs.

Gumbo Ya Ya Festival

Nobody said you had to go down to New Orleans to celebrate Mardi Gras, which is a good thing because Rock Island hosts an annual Mardi Gras each June that is sure to make you feel like you are in the south. The Gumbo Ya Ya Festival is usually held the first weekend in June and the activities, entertainment, and events taking place are one of a kind. The organizers pull out all the stops with Cajun-inspired food, bead throwing, street performers, and two nights of all night partying for locals ready to dance the night away.

Get Out and Enjoy Roc

Everybody knows that spending too much time in the house can make you a little stir crazy, but thanks to the Rock Island Parks and Recreation Department, there is plenty to do outdoors for locals looking for fresh air. Enjoy your daily workout at the Rock Island Fitness and Activity Center or visit the Alan Campbell Sports Complex. You will also find trails for biking, hiking, and walking, and several aquatics programs to help you stay in shape or simply cool off. Your kids will especially enjoy the playgrounds throughout the community, making outdoor life in Rock Island a win-win for the whole family.
