All About Riverdale
Riverdale began as a depot for the railway system that cut through the farmland in central Georgia in the late 1800s. The town was named after the Rivers family who donated land to the railway companies. Today, the city sits 13 miles from downtown Atlanta, between I-75 and I-85. The town retains its rural southern charm and is adored for its natural, green beauty, yet it offers its residents all the benefits of being close to the state's capital and largest city.
Life in Riverdale
Riverdale is home to 12,500 people. Much of the town is focused around State Route 85 which runs north and south, straight through town. There you'll find most of the area stores, shops, and restaurants. Even with such a small population, there are more than enough large-chain retailers to meet the demands of residents. Big names such as Wal-Mart and Lowe's have locations along this main drag. So while apartment living here will give you that decidedly small-town feel, everything you need is still available.
The city is great for families and this is reflected in the wonderful apartment communities in the area. Riverdale is served by a number of award-winning schools in the Clayton County School System. The western side of the city features Burdett, Tucker Memorial, and Flat Shoals Parks, each with large fields and beautiful established landscaping. Morrow, Georgia, just to the east of the city, is home to the popular Reynolds Nature Preserve. Morrow is also the site of Clayton State University, a college offering both bachelor's and master's degree programs with a student body of nearly 7,000. Healthcare is highlighted by the region's only major hospital, Southern Crescent Hospital.
Just Outside of Atlanta
Your new apartment could be just five miles south of the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Taking the freeway into Atlanta opens you up to all the benefits the big city has to offer. The ""City in a Forest"" earned the nickname because of the large, dense canopy of trees covering most of its area. It has a rich and diverse culture which is displayed in its offerings in the arts. The High Museum of Art, Museum of Design Atlanta, and Michael C. Carlos Museum are all leading exhibitors in their respective specialties and draw millions of visitors each year. Atlanta is also home to the Georgia Aquarium, and with over eight million gallons of water, it is the largest aquarium in the world.
