Exceptional Education

Rio Rancho Public Schools cover students from kindergarten through grade 12, while National American University covers higher education. There are 11 elementary schools, four middle schools, four high schools, and even an integrative family school that focuses on creating a feeling of community between children, parents, and teachers. Rio Rancho Public Schools even provides help to parents who choose to homeschool their children rather than sendin them to traditional schools. Overall, education in Rio Rancho meets or exceeds national standards, making Rio Rancho a great place to put down roots and raise a thriving family.

Historical Rio Rancho

Historically, Rio Rancho fell under the Alameda Grant, which was formed by Spanish settlers in the early 18th century. The area originally served as for-sale land, and was parceled off to various land investment companies throughout the years. The area remained small until approximately 1970, when heavy advertising to New York markets drew many retirees and families to the area to enjoy a more peaceful life. Originally, Rio Rancho was very dependent on neighboring Albuquerque. However, as it has grown, the area has continued to become more independent and self-sustaining, earning itself a brand new City Hall in 2007.

Beautiful Landscapes

Rio Rancho is situated on the banks of the Rio Grande river, which carves a path throughout the stark, dry landscape. New Mexico lies right on the northeastern tip of the Chihuahuan Desert, and the ecoregion with the same name. While the area is desert, scrub brush, cacti, and desert flowers are prolific, offering a rich landscape for the eyes to enjoy. Rocks dot the landscape, and huge expanses of flat land make for excellent hiking. Because temperatures remain fairly even in the area, with the exception of high summer, outdoor activities are possible year round and enjoyed in comfort.
