Bear’s Retreat is symbol of Pleasant Hills' rich history and pioneering heritage. The house dates back to 1794 and was built by Jacob Bare. The German immigrant constructed the three-story log home by hand and in 1840 a brick addition was added on one side. Parts of the home remain standing as of 2014, including the unique and practical outdoor kitchen. Designated as a Historic Landmark in 1983, the home was lived in until 2011. Today, this Inglefield Drive landmark is a great place to visit and get a glimpse at early architecture and a historic site.
