Day at the Beach

One of the big draws and somewhat of a hidden secret for locals to keep is the sandy beaches and picnic areas along the lakefront shores. It may not have the waves of the east coast, but this little slice of beachgoer’s paradise is all you need to soak up some vitamin D and get your daily dose of sun. There are numerous trails and biking paths along the water as well, and people tend to make it their impromptu workout spot in the mornings and after work. Keep it a secret if you can.

State University of N

Plattsburgh is not only home to a number of excellent elementary and high school facilities, but it also have a branch of the State University of New York system right in its own backyard. With a student body of more than 6,000, and a town that caters to college students with great food and affordable living, it is no wonder why they get high accolades for livability and education in Plattsburgh. The campus is worth checking out, and the Nina Winkel Sculpture Gallery should not be missed if you have some time to explore the grounds.

Shopping Haven

Being so close to the Canadian border and also being the regional hub for retail and shopping means you can find anything under the sun here in Plattsburgh, and often for a bargain. They have anything from cute little boutiques that specialize in local arts and crafts to big box stores like Walmart and Target for those weekend grocery runs for the family. The deals are so good and the options so endless that our friendly neighbors to the north often cross the border just to do a little shopping with their Loonies and bring back a steal from the United States side.
