Historic Fort Megis

Located within Perrysburg itself, Fort Megis is a standing relic of early American history. This military structure was built during the War of 1812 as fortification for U.S. General William Henry Harrison's troops. At one point, Fort Megis was the largest wooden fort on the continent, and while today's version is an accurate representation of its past look, it is actually a reconstruction rather than the original article. The museum here does contain many original artifacts that were excavated during the fort's reconstruction. Battle reenactments regularly take place, adding an additional element of historic interest.

Part of Perrysburg is located along the banks of the Maumee River and one great place to enjoy this natural resource is at the city's Orleans Park. One main feature of the park is its boat launch, from which those so inclined can launch jet skis, canoes, and small boats. Orleans Park does not have a dock, but the city does offer canoe storage racks. Rental for these storage racks is affordable, and the city even provides chains for securing your canoe. You can also stand along the banks and fish or simply watch the water and boats go by.
