Perkasie, Pennsylvania is a small town about a half an hour out of Philadelphia. There are only around 8,500 people who currently live here, making it the perfect size for apartment renters who want to make friends with all their new neighbors. The locals are a friendly bunch as well, making it easy to fit right in when you first move here. Though not everyone who lives here has kids, this is known as a family-friendly place and there are plenty of activities to keep toddlers, kids and teens entertained as they grow up safe and sound in this close-knit community. Kids will love living in Perkasie but there's plenty for adults to enjoy as well. Nature lovers can explore the great outdoors through the vast system of parks right in town. Appreciators of the arts will be close to numerous museums, theaters and concert halls. Sports fans will have their choice of Philadelphia-based teams to support.

A Family Friendly Town

Family is paramount to the people of Perkasie. Though you don't have to have a family of your own when you move into town, renters who do will find plenty of family friendly activities to enjoy with the kids. The second Friday of every month, you can take the kids down to the fun at the town's Family Fridays. The events are different each month and feature music, science, and games, among other activities. During the summer, kids can sign up for all sorts of different camps or play with their friends on sports teams. Not all the fun is reserved for the kids, though; adults can get involved in team sports, clubs, and classes through the town's parks and recreation department.

Riding the Chocolate Roller Coaster

Everybody knows that the chocolate-themed wonderland brought to life in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is just the result of a little Hollywood magic. There isn't any real place that people can go to enjoy a day or weekend of rides, games and chocolate-filled fun. Or is there? Hershey, a town about two hours away from town, doesn't share its name with the chocolate tycoon for nothing. This town was built by chocolate, for chocolate, and the amusement park Mr. Hershey first dreamed up to entertain his factory workers has become the ever-expanding, modern Hershey Park. The park is perfect for kids and adults; there are plenty of rides for the little ones to enjoy as well as a number of thrilling roller coasters for teens and adults. And, of course, there's all the chocolate you could ever hope to come face to face with. Just try not to fall into the chocolate river…we've all seen how that ends.

Visiting the Cities

Though you’re sure to appreciate your new apartment and the small town charm, sometimes the city comes a calling. Fortunately for the townspeople, there are two big cities nearby: Allentown and Philadelphia. Either of these cities would be a great place to go to sit down for a nice dinner, view some art, take in a little piece of history at a museum, or enjoy a night at the theater. If it's sports you're after, Philadelphia is the only game around, although there are always quite a few games to see in Philly.

A Breath of Fresh Air

Though it's not far from some of the state's big cities, Perkasie is surrounded by beautiful parks and open spaces. The city has set aside over 400 acres to leave undeveloped and apartment renters can enjoy exploring almost all of this space. Within town, there are ballparks and soccer fields, playgrounds, public pools, picnic areas, and nature parks with long, winding trails. In the open spaces, locals can get some exercise hiking around and watching for birds and other wildlife. If you're looking for even more nature, Nockamixon State Park is just past the city limits. Here you can enjoy fishing, boating, and swimming in the lake, or go hiking, mountain biking, and camping in the surrounding countryside. With so many beautiful outdoor areas to explore, there's never an excuse to waste a beautiful day when you're living in Perkasie.
