Stretching 20 acres along the north side of the Manatee River, the Estuary is a public park, habitat restoration project, and nature preserve, intended to provide city residents and local wildlife room to breathe. Head out to the Estuary on a day when you have at least a few hours to explore the natural beautify of the area and to play a bit. One of the easiest hiking venues in the county, this preserve allows even the least experienced hikers to discover local wildlife, learn about native plants, and witness other wonders of Palmetto's ecology and geography.
Farm City Week
Manatee County is traditionally an agricultural area, with its rich, spring-fed soil and semi-tropical climate. Farm City Week, an annual national celebration of agricultural roots, is honored in Palmetto during the local Farm City festival. Community events throughout the entire county are scheduled for the week, with each community hosting multiple events that highlight agriculture's importance in daily life. Be sure to take the Palmetto Agricultural Bus Tour for daylong discovery of county agricultural highlights. Other events are held at the city's museums, community centers, and civic center, and each year’s festival agenda brings new highlights.
