Out and About

Though this city is far from the famous Everglades National Park, Palm Bay is close to vast wetland areas, including the 52,000 acre Three Forks Conservation Area. This preserve is a great place to view river otters splashing and playing and alligators basking in the sun on the shore. There's also camping, fishing, boating and seasonal hunting at the park. If you decide to brave the swampland in a campground overnight, just be sure to bring a powerful flashlight so you don't accidentally trod on any gators on a midnight run to the bathroom!

If the swampland isn't your thing, there’s always the Atlantic Ocean at your doorstep. On the beaches, you can swim, surf, stroll along the shore, or join up with some friends for a game of volleyball. If you're looking for a little more excitement on your day at the beach there are jet skis to rent on some beaches and parasailing rides at others. Sailing and fishing charter boats also zip out to sea from the city a few times a day.

Feeling Sporty?

Many of the folks who live in the area love their sports. There may not be any big league sports teams around, but there is a local minor league baseball team, the Manatees, that attracts thousands of fans for its spring training season. Though renters who live in town enjoy sitting back to watch the game, whether live at the Viera Stadium or on the big screen at one of the local sports bars, it's playing that really gets the people of this city worked up. Palm Bay organizes dozens of local teams and leagues in many different sports for its residents to enjoy. Tennis is one of the most popular sports in town but newcomers can easily join up with a league to play soccer, baseball, basketball, football, or volleyball as well. There's no off-season here. The mild year-round weather (with an average of temperature of 80 degrees in July and 60 in January) makes it easy to enjoy running around outside any time of the year.

Anyone who moves here will have to think long and hard about which festivals, concerts, celebrations, performances and parties they want to attend. There's simply no way to make it to all of them, not if you don't have a Time Turner to go back and do the last three hours over again.
