Steele County Free Fa

The Steele County Free Fair is an annual event that has taken place in Owatonna since 1860. Unlike most county fairs, there is no admission fee charged to visitors at this event. This also includes the number of free stages that host numerous talent events. Indeed, with dozens of bands scheduled to play each year, visitors have a range of musical entertainment options from rock to gospel and everything in between. There are over 100 food stands and 2,000 animals on display. The Steel County Free Fair is the largest county fair in the state and attracts well over 250,000 patrons from near and far every year.

National Farmer's Ban

The National Farmers Bank is a historic landmark in Owatonna and a source of communal pride. Constructed in 1908, the bank features the architectural design of Louis Sullivan. There are also certain decorative features in the design incorporated by George Elmsie. The interior also features an ornateness not generally found in contemporary financial institutions. Visitors are frequently in awe of the design elements that the bank features, as well as the famous names attached to them. Perhaps just as amazing is the fact that this is still a functional bank, as the location serves as a branch of Wells Fargo.

Kaplan's Woods Parkwa

Kaplan’s Woods Parkway is the perfect place to get outside for a bit of recreational enjoyment. Not only are there acres of woodland area, but the Parkway includes Lake Kohlmeir as well. You will find miles of both hiking and skiing trails available, covering both summer and winter climates. You will also find a couple of miles of hard surfaced trails that allow the handicapped to enjoy the area as well. With great aquatic options on the lake, a day at the Parkway is sure to offer fun times for the entire family. But, beware that many residents believe that the woods here are haunted.
