The Oviedo Marketplace

A Shopping Haven- Local shopping addicts and enthusiasts alike will have no trouble getting their fix in Oviedo, Florida. The Oviedo Marketplace opened in 1998, anchored by Dillard's, Sears, and Macy's. Some of the mall's other popular stores include a Barnes & Noble, Bed Bath & Beyond, Brookstone, Dollar Tree, Sunglass Hut, Payless Shoe Source, and many more. Oviedo Marketplace also features a movie theater and food court with a Chik-Fil-A, Subway, and Sbarro.

The mall is conveniently open Monday through Saturday from 10am-9pm and Sunday from 12-6pm and the city's public bus network affords residents easy transportation to and from the mall. The marketplace also boasts discounts and promotions for club members, as well as support for the community through their collaborations with the local Habitat for Humanity and My School's Cool program.

Posse of Chickens

Oviedo Chickens- Yes, chickens. One of Oviedo's claims to fame is the town's legendary posse of chickens that reside in the downtown area, ironically near the local Popeye's Chicken fast food joint. The illustrious chickens (that often stop traffic downtown when they cross the street) are an Oviedo icon, featured on Oviedo t-shirts and coffee mugs, and centered on the poster for the yearly "A Taste of Oviedo" community festival. This unique phenomenon occurs within viewing distance of the town's historic Townhouse Restaurant and was the subject of a short documentary that was featured in the 2009 Florida Film Festival.

The district consists of 5 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 2 high schools. Considered by many to be the best breakfast in central Florida, Town House Restaurant is located on East Broadway Street, in the heart of Oviedo's downtown. While this charming small-town diner is best known for its tasty breakfast fare (which is served all day), Town House also serves up some delectable lunch and dinner cuisine. The line to get in the door may be long at times, but once you're in the service is friendly and expedient (and the food makes it well-worth your wait!) The cuisine is primarily classic American, with some Greek-inspired dishes. Some favorites include the biscuits and gravy, corn beef hash, home fries, steak and eggs, and, for lunch, the pork roast special served with Town House's fabulous peppered lima beans.
