Speaking of Edisto Memorial Gardens, it is home to one of the top 20 events in Southeastern Tourism Society: The Orangeburg Festival of Roses. Celebrate the beauty and grace of the south’s favorite flower as thousands of roses bloom here and all over the city. The Rose Festival has fun for everyone, with games, rides, food, live entertainment, and contests. At Christmastime, the Garden is the site of another festival: The Children’s Garden Christmas. Drive through dozens of dazzling and heartwarming lights displays. There is a giant Santa sleigh with reindeer, snowmen, and much more to see.

Orangeburg is home to two universities and a technical college. Claflin University is more than 100 years old and finds itself in the top 10 in the U.S. News and World Report’s “2012 Guidebook to American Colleges and Universities.” It is a co-educational, independent, liberal arts university. If your interests lie in technology, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College is a proud member of the American Association of Community Colleges. This two-year technical college offers studies in expanding industries and has excellent university transfer opportunities. South Carolina State University offers the only undergraduate nuclear engineering program in South Carolina.
