Orange Park, Florida
Orange Park is a suburb of Jacksonville with a population of under 10,000. The name Orange Park comes from a time when it was hoped the area would be a great fruit growing region. Sadly, the crops that were destroyed in the great freeze of 1894 never recovered. All around, citrus crops came back but never in Orange Park.
The city is located just six miles from Jacksonville, but when looking for your Orange Park apartment, you'll want to consider parking for a car. There is public transportation but it isn't ample for commuting and daily errands.
The Doctor's Lake
You'll find plenty of shopping in Orange Park, but since it is a small town and so closely located to Jacksonville, it tends to depend on its big sister for cultural venues. What you do find in Orange Park are plenty of parks and recreational areas. There's a skate park as well as the Doctor's Lake area where fishing and other water sports are available. You'll find excellent golf courses, tennis courts and places to swim. Once in your Orange Park apartment, there's certainly a lot to do for such a small place!
Hidden Fish Camp
Start exploring local restaurants by going where the locals go to eat. Whitey's Fish Camp is located on the river, and you can make a new friend to ask how to get there. You won't find it on any GPS system. It's classic Florida seafood with a great atmosphere. Sit on the patio for dinner and go inside later for live music. Sorbello's for Italian and La Nopalera for Mexican are two other night favorites. If you just want a good burger, run don't walk to Beef O'Brady's. The burgers and wings are great!
On The River
If there are nights when you want to get out of your Orange Park apartment and meet a few new people, The RIver House is a good place to check out. It's on the river, has good views and has free popcorn too. Shades and Stages is a pool room that has concerts and is a lot of fun. Besides, there are all the big clubs in Jacksonville - just down the road!

Is Orange Park famous for any kind of restaurant or food in particular? What's the local favorite?
With several locations around Jacksonville and one conveniently situated right in Orange Park on Kingsley Avenue, La Napolera is the local favorite spot to hit up for tasty and authentic Mexican cuisine. The portions are generous, the food is disreputably delicious, and the prices are quite reasonable to boot. Try the scrumptious chicken enchiladas, the steak fajitas, or the tacos al pastor- finely chopped and seasoned pork, served on an open corn tortilla with a side of cilantro, onions, and La Napolera's own special salsa. Pair it with La Napolera's to-die-for sweet tea, or one of their famed mojitos or margaritas. Due to its popularity the lines are sometimes long, but service is quick and friendly, and the food well worth the wait.
