Every Friday evening from Memorial Day through Labor Day in neighborhoods throughout Northbrook, residents host a Flamingo Friday event. How it works is whoever has the neighborhood plastic lawn flamingo in their front yard will be hosting that week's Flamingo Friday. All the host needs to provide is the driveway, and the neighbors and friends that come visit bring the rest: lawn chairs, snacks, drinks, games, or whatever they fancy. The event is sponsored by the city with the purpose of promoting a strong sense of community and neighborliness in Northbrook in a low-pressure and fun summer event.
Golf Golf Golf
For the golfer that loves variety, the North Shore area is a paradise. There are six golf courses in the Northbook area alone, and well over 20 within easy driving distance. Some of the clubs are not open to non-members, but most are for a fee. The Northbrook Parks Department runs two courses, the Sportsman's Country Club and the Anetsberger Golf Course, both of which are surprisingly fancy for public courses. The Mission Hills Country Club is a private option in Northbrook that offers unlimited golf to members and features a gourmet restaurant in the club.
