It's close enough to commute for work, school, or play, and far enough to enjoy some peace and quiet. Life in this city is much quieter than life in the big city but there's never any shortage of things to do.

Eating Your Way through North Chicago

Like its namesake, North Chicago is a city with a great deal of ethnic diversity. When the area was first settled, many immigrants from Eastern Europe were sent here. Once they arrived, they quickly began to lay down roots, creating whole communities that carved out a little piece of home in the New World. Through the years, immigrants from other parts of Europe, as well as Africa, Asia, and Central and South America, also made their homes in North Chicago. The children and grandchildren of these immigrants may have been mainstreamed into American culture by now but there's always that one last cultural hold out that even these generations continue to cling to and that's the food. If you like to enjoy a varied diet with some of the best Polish, Mexican, Thai, and Italian food around, you'll definitely want to plan on eating out in North Chicago as often as you can. Renters can also drive into downtown Chicago for even more culinary options.

Into the Big City

There's no shortage of things to do in the Chicago metropolitan area and renters who move to North Chicago will have easy access to all the great city has to offer. Sports fans can cheer on any number of Chicago based teams when they play at home and patrons of the arts can visit dozens of museums and hundreds of theaters in town. Though there are a number of bars that stay open late in North Chicago, renters who want to dance all night long can head into downtown Chicago to enjoy the booming nightlife in the big city.

Getting Together in North Chicago

Renters in North Chicago should be sure to head down to the city's Community Days event, which is held each August. At the festival, the people of North Chicago gather together to enjoy good food and live musical performances. There are a number of different kinds of events at the party, including a car show and a basketball tournament, ensuring that everyone will have a great time.

Natural Illinois

One of the best parts about renting an apartment in North Chicago is that you'll have easy access to the beautiful nature preserves and parks of Northern Illinois. Most of the parks close to town are maintained by Lake County, though there are also a couple large state parks around. Renters who enjoy exploring wilderness areas can camp, fish, hunt, hike, and mountain bike in the summer and ski, snowshoe, dogsled, ice skate, and ice fish in the winter. With access to so many outdoor activities, it's hard not to stay happy and active living in a city like North Chicago. Renters can also meet new friends by joining a hiking group or chatting with neighbors at one of the many lakes while they wait to hook dinner on the line.
